1974 Moto Guzzi Eldorado in Tacoma, Washington

1974 Moto Guzzi Eldorado former Sacramento Police BikeI bought this bike with 67,000 miles on it. It was a strong runner and fun to ride, but it was old and a little worn down. Brittle wires, grungy and hand painted by a previous owner who obviously loved the bike, but also liked a little reefer too. So after a year of riding I decided to restore it.RestorationThe following restoration items could not have been possible without the advice and generosity of the folks at ThisOldTractor, Moto International, MG Classics, Cycle Garden, Zydeco Racing and MG Cycle. Thanks for introducing me to a great motorcycle and an even greater community of true enthusiasts.@77k milesTore down and Powder coated all frame membersBags and tin paintedReplaced cylinders & pistons with Gilardoni nickasil 850ccHeads redone by Moto InternationalReplaced wheel, swingarm, steering and main carrier bearingsReplaced U-jointNew wiring harnessWheels polished, re-spoked and relacedTiming chest gears, chain and tensioner replaceNew Brembo master cylinderRebuilt Rear Drive@85k milesTransmission rebuilt by Zydeco RacingNew ClutchNew Rear Main BearingNew coil, wires and distributor (rebuilt)Generator rebuilt and stronger mount installedNew Brembo front disc caliperNew-Old rear wheel drive spindleStainless head pipesNew Ikon rear shocksMore recentNew re-issued Frankfurter slash mufflers. Same as original Police model. The RideThis bike can be ridden all day for days on end without discomfort. It was a cop bike after all. The transverse engine, 30lb flywheel, shaft drive and sitting position give a ride that no other bike on this planet can provide. The LookAesthetically there are few bikes as beautiful as the Eldorado. Even though I changed the colors, I kept the original striping and decals because they are part of the fantastic styling of these bikes. I get compliments everywhere I go.MechanicalThis bike is mechanically sound and has ALWAYS started and ran without issues (even before restoration). This is not an accident. Being police models they were designed to be reliable and easy to maintain. Using a simple set of tools and skills is all that's needed.ConfigurationsSoloTwo-UpExtrasOriginal Police Ammo Cans, various gaskets, spare u-joint, cable choke, clutch cables (2), passenger grip handles, wrap around heated grips, etc.The BadScratches, rubs, tear in dual seat and piece of windshield is broken (visibility and mounting not impacted).Parting ShotsThis is not a showroom bike and it was not my intention to make it one. However, it wouldn't take much to get it into showroom condition.
